Questions
Do my images leave my device?
No. Images are read and cleaned in your browser and stay in memory on your device; refreshing the page clears them. An account is optional and does not change how images are processed.
Will cleaning change the picture?
Not in the default mode: the original format and encoded image are kept, and the displayed result is compared pixel by pixel before you can download it. Colour profiles and orientation are kept because they change how the image looks. Converting to another format creates a new export.
Which images can I use?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC / HEIF, up to 20 MB and 50 megapixels each: one at a time on the free plan, 10 at a time with Pro. Animations and video are not supported yet.
Does this remove watermarks?
No. Metadata lives in the file; visible marks and invisible watermarks such as SynthID live in the pixels. MetadataWash removes metadata and does not claim to remove watermarks or to change how platforms or detectors classify an image.
